Opening Doors to Job Opportunities and Strengthening South Carolina’s Economy
South Carolina must continue working to strengthen our economy and create new, better, higher-paying jobs. Rep. Bill Sandifer is committed to boosting our economy by developing and attracting the businesses and jobs that will allow us to thrive in today’s globally competitive marketplace. To attract jobs and corporate investment to South Carolina, he actively supports pro-business initiatives such as enhancing telecommunications, supporting small businesses, reforming Workers’ Compensation and improving education.
Rep. Sandifer believes that South Carolina must have an educational system that builds on our successes and uses innovation, so that all of South Carolina’s children can have a first-class foundation. To truly compete in the global marketplace, South Carolina must provide an education system that yields excellent young workers who will continue to work for the betterment of South Carolina. The children of South Carolina deserve a high-quality education that prepares them not only for higher education, but also for the real world they will face as working adults.
The rising property tax burden is one of the most pressing issues facing the hard working people of South Carolina who have realized the dream of home ownership. In 2006, the S.C. General Assembly approved a three-part property tax reform package that slows how fast a home’s assessed value can grow, pays a portion of property taxes, and includes a tax cut on groceries while raising the overall sales tax by 1%. Rep. Sandifer believes it is important for the General Assembly to continue monitoring this issue, ensuring that our efforts to control the growth of these taxes remains effective.
Lowering Tax Burden on Working Families
Rep. Bill Sandifer has always believed in the strength of the people of South Carolina and the importance of keeping tax rates low. However, tax cuts work best when accompanied by lower spending. Higher taxes and greater spending hinders long-term growth, limits entrepreneurship, and fosters wasteful tax spending. Intelligently formulated tax cuts and sensible tax reform will deliver much higher growth when also accompanied by lower spending.
Improving Government Efficiency with Fiscal Discipline
Rep. Sandifer will continue working to ensure that the money contributed by hardworking South Carolina taxpayers and spent by the S.C. General Assembly is used wisely on legitimate state priorities, while also making sure state agencies’ key missions are not compromised. South Carolinians rightly expect our state government to wisely manage the money they send to Columbia. As responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, Sandifer believes, state government must respect the bottom line, just as families do when they manage their own finances.
